Trip
For our region, the school holiday season was ended on Wednesday, January 6th 2016. So if other schools started their first day of school on Monday like usual, we still had two days of free time before starting the crazy cray monotone recurring schedules. Monday, the day where people have to go to their office or works, is considered by us to be the best day to have an escape. We thought it would be less crowded. It would not be like the sea of humans in every single piece of tourist attraction location because it was the holidays for schools, Christmas and New Year. But kinda a zonk. Oh yes.. It indeed was Monday. But people looked like they didn’t think it’s the time to back to the reality and stop having vacation. The traffic jam to every where was crazy. We stopped after two or three minutes run. Then stop for another longer minutes. The jam was so long. Start to think maybe this time Monday is not the best choice.
By renting a car we eight went to Berastagi. it is always a nice short trip every time we go to Berastagi. it’s not the place where we can try to visit new places. For people like us, where having holidays is always about if it’s not Danau Toba, it must be Berastagi, going there is all about having the green sight seeing to every direction you see, inhale the so fresh air, having lunch on the grass with other families and relax as well as have a nice nap under the tree, with a view of mountain right in front of your eyes, and also use the as cold fridge water in the public toilet. seriously I feel like my pores are really narrowing when I washed my face with water in Berastagi. our home is only 10 km from the beach so having the cold water used other than to make syrup but washing face is such an interesting experience to tell about. Hahaha..
It’s all we did in Gundaling. Unfortunately Sinabung is still activating its volcanic so there are some interesting places have been forbidden to visit. Lucky us the sun shines brightly. To be honest it’s too bright actually, in short that day is so hot. In Gundaling you can ride a horse. Or pay IDR 10k to take a photo with the horse. There is also a delman. A horse pedicab which you will sit at the seat attached to the horse’s body which will take you to run around Gundaling. Since I am a meat eater but against any activity to exploit animals, I just skip it and not recommend it to anyone. Bringing foods from home is the best decision since the food pricing in there is expensive tasting meh. But if only you want to experience having lunch with this view
We just chat and take a short nap in our tent and continue our trip Lumbini Park. Lumbini Park is a Buddhist Temple area opened free for public. Though it doesn’t limit the visitor to people with any certain religion, we decide not to enter the temple and prefer to see the huge garden it has at the back. We just think it will be so wise if we just let the inside of the temple purely for the right people to pray. If you are a first timer like us, don’t hesitate to ask the gardeners to show you which is the most interested part to see in there. Never be like us. We are so curious with a locked little gate and think if we just jump over it since it is just as high as my waist. Because we ask each other why this gate only be locked while other is opened? Till we know the answer from the gardener that it is the way to the rooms for the Monks.
The garden is so green and huge. It really freshens my eyes seriously. As I remember a doctor ever said having at least 30 minutes seeing the greens will be a great therapy healing our eyes problems. It will rest them as well. The air is so freaking freshening, if only we can make this nature air filter to Pakam and Perbaungan. Haha. It has been evening when we enter Lumbini so we just have 1 hour visit. FYI, if you wish to sightsee how it looks like inside the temple, never visit on Sunday. It is the time to pray. From Lumbini we down the road and drop by to Penatapan. A rest area where we can see Medan and its surrounding in a tiny dots look while enjoy a hot coffee or tea, Pop Mie or grilled corn. Da yum! I recommend you just look straight forward to the landscape in front of you and never look down if you never wish to see a huge scrapheaps.
Time to back home.. time to back home..
Having dinner in Mie Sop Kampung H.M. Joni branch. Seriously we will never come back there for dinner. It tastes like the broth is actually sold out but customers keep ordering the menu so our negative thinking lead us to consider they pour water into the broth. It tasteless seriously. Add exaggerated condiments like chili paste, soy sauce and tomato sauce if you want to make it taste something. Go there for lunch and you will get the best Mie Sop you ever think. The broth is so meaty. I love it because it has FATS but feel so light in my mouth. With sissy we don’t stop praising how delicious the soup is till we finish our meals.
Overall, the short trip is leaving aches to my legs but smiling to my heart.
Here is the Maimoon.. I don’t know why I start to feel interested to visit a place ‘like’ that because before I never did it. I often pass it but it was like you passed your neighbours’ homes and you just had in your mind, ‘oh, that’s Mari’s home’ or even you didn’t realize that you had passed Mari’s home. LOL.
The first time I visited Maimoon Palace was when I had our Elementary School farewell. We the students and the teachers had a one day trip to Maimoon Palace, Taman Dewi and then to a Zoo. We paid IDR 5.000 for the ticket entering the palace and IDR 3.000 to enter a small building for Meriam Buntung (The Split Up Cannon).
Entering the gate entrance, I saw a horse-drawn carriage? Maybe vehicles of the royal family in antiquity.
Notes on the ticket:
Maimoon Palace was built on 29 August 1888 by the Sultan Ma’moen Al Rasyid (Sultan Deli IX) and the central government to the empire Deli at the time. With the age of 100 years, the palace has become a cultural heritage Maimoon by Indonesia Government.
Maimoon is kinda small for a palace. We just be able to see the main part which was located in the front building because the other parts were Sultan's family residence. When I came to Maimoon, there was a group of tourist came from Malaysia and then came the other group also from my Malaysia. Malaysians looked so interested with Maimoon because it has some history background with them. And then came a group from.. Europe? America? Dunno. hehe.
We must take off our shoes or sandals before entering the palace. When we came inside, we will see the building was dominated by yellow (Malay typical color).
What I loved was every roof for every room had different pattern and color. There were several pictures of patricians hanged on the wall. Turn left, we would find several old sofa with notification : ’dont’t sit’ LOL
We would see some old traditional music instruments, plates and Kris maybe. And also the original clothes Sultan ever wore. Back, we would see Sultan’s throne which also you were not allowed to sit no matter how much you wish to act like a patrician. So just make the tourist typical pose: sit forming a line with your group in front of it so you won’t block the throne. LOL
There is a small souvenir shop inside it but camera was forbidden. So I straight to the next room. Dunno what it was. There were a replica of patrician’s clothes and jewelries. I was offered to take a photo by using the Malay clothes but I was not that confidence. Not because of the cost but.. I was alone -,-“
the jewelries are original.
There were also the original chairs aged 130 years used to be used by Sultan and Queen. They have the same high but there’s something differentiating which one is Sultan’s and which one is Queen’s.
The higher is Sultan’s. I overhear the explanation from the Malaysians' tour guide. haha
Actually there was a Malay music live show outside the palace but I didn’t see it. It’s about the time because I should finish my transcript and that day was so hot. I couldn’t stand it. That’s why I cancelled to look Medan Great Mosque. Just need to walk a little but the hot day made me give up so I just saw the split up cannon in a small wooden house in the right side of the palace.
The Legend of a split up cannon
According to the Deli Malay legend: The cannon was a personification of Putri Hijau’s (Princess Green) younger brother from Deli Tua Kingdom named Mambang Khayali which transformed himself into a cannon when he was doing his utmost to defend the Palace against the attack of the Acehness King because the King’s proposal was rejected by Putri Hijau.
The cannon kept on firing continuously which caused the barrel was very hot hot and the cannon finally broken into two parts.
The top of the cannon flew over the air and landed in Sukanalu Vilage Sub-district Barus Jahe Tanah Karo, while the other part is now kept in the small wooden house on the right side of the Maimoon Palace area.
Maybe the Malay music live show will be held there.
So if you have a chance to visit Medan, Maimoon is a must!
Visited Asam Kumbang last week with Noni. By riding our motorcycle to Jl.Bunga Raya II No. 59 Sunggal , Medan Selayang sub-district, Medan, North Sumatra. Lona suggested us to reach that farm at 4 in the afternoon since that's the schedule for those reptiles to eat. The ticket to enter that farm cost Rp 6k for each.
Wanna join them?
Entering the main gate, we were welcomed by so smell and fishy aroma which was so eww. And really shocked for suddenly face-to-face with the crocodiles if we looked toward to the right because that's the only option. There's only wall in the left side after the entrance. Lol.
I'm not sure what they were doing. I hope that's not something indecent. Lol.
The crocodile farm was started in 1959 by Lo Than Mok, built on a land area of 2 hectares. In 2011, it's recorded there were 2700 live crocodiles that were placed in an artificial lake at the farm. The access to Asam Kumbang is fairly easy and can be passed by all the transport equipments available in Medan such as public transportation, tricycles and motorcycles and cars.
No, those are not floating wood pieces. Throw some duck heads and they will open their jaw widely and show off their canines
I don't know if the meal was failed to satisfy 'him' (all the crocodiles look as male in my sight) or 'he' was indeed had got fully tummy, no matter what that duck carcass in 'his' mouth was so disgusting. It looked like they eat duck almost everyday.
I saw a banner explained we could see a show of the friendship of a crocodile with a monkey by paying Rp 50k. A crazy price. I can remember when I was a kid, I saw monkey sit comfortably in the crocodile's mouth in some zoo and it's free. Oh, maybe we will be entertained something more special with that Rp 50k.
The oldest crocodile, 40 years old. It's the biggest as well.
If we want to feed the crocodiles with a living duck, we can buy it cost Rp 30k. If you really want to serve that reptile fresh meat, maybe you are kind of a lover, please don't make it as an entertainment. Seriously I'm not a victim of Babe or other animal movies which show how animals are like us, humans, have feeling and family they want to be with, like at least as long as they can.
The visitors, included Noni who was ready with her phone camera -,-", surrounded the cage where one of them threw a living duck to feed one crocodile occupies that cage. They waited impatiently to see the crocodile pounce that sad duck. That duck could only stand in the corner while the ugly predator slowly but I guess it's a sure movement, approaching its prey. I know the vegetarians considered us, meat eaters, are not really different with those crocodiles. But we eat the ducks decently. We slaughter them in the right way and.. Okay. Everything has each portion.
What's happened with your tail, Crocs?
I know that smell and fishy are not something which can be overcome that easily. It's not a goldfish farm where the management and the team can move the fish to other place while they drain and clean the artificial pond. But there is no crocodile in the dry ground. They should repair the broken swings and others. And those snakes, I'm sure it's a really bad decision to put that big boa (if I'm not mistaken) in a narrow and dark cage.
Today I'm going to continue writing about what I saw while visiting the gallery yesterday. I asked two drivers of public transport and the first answered that he did not pass through the gallery and the second asked me the address. So I told where the address and he then suggested to drop me off at the intersection of the road to the gallery. Of course I do not want to. I even asked a high school student who happened was also waiting for public transport to go to school and she did not know too. I finally asked the third driver (of the same type of public transportation like the first two) and he said 'yes'. Yuhhuuuu ..
there is a national monument of justice in front of the gallery entrance
The gallery is located on Jl. Supratman no. 309, Medan and we had to pay Rp 25,000 to enter the gallery and Rp 32.000 if you want to join the night safari. The gallery was so comfortable. I only bought the first one because I was alone. Because my friend said that the night safari is actually not different from what we see outside. it's just that we are entering a very dark room with beasts sound effects and wild animals that appear suddenly because of a little light (perhaps to give a real impression of being in the wilderness).
Wise notification for visitors to think about
Entering the main gallery we'll see some beautiful natural stones (if I'm not mistaken). Turn left, we will start to see the adventure thrill animals that have been preserved. Ranging from the cute animals to the wild, the smallest to the largest which came from across the world. Really awesome. But we were not allowed to touch the gallery collections. The first I saw an article about Rahmat Shah, founder and hunters from almost of all animals in the gallery (which seem to number in the thousands). Rahmat Shah is an international hunters joined in the international hunting organization (International Safari Club) where they are hunting with a legal hunt.
The first room I saw was Kids Corner Room. It's the place for young animals.
Cute, right? Can you notice the cute yellow chicks? Even the young bears and lions look like cute doll to play. But if they get bigger and bigger maybe I will be the doll for they to play >,<
Based on an article interview with Rahmat Shah, he explained "I usually hunt overseas when there is a notice from International Safari Club. Thus not be able to hunt at all times. And must be adapted to the hunting season in certain areas where some species are being over-population. Existing criteria again, can not hunt at night, do not shoot at will, if against the procedure should be punished by jail or expelled from Indonesia Safari Club members". Even any protected species when it is over population, must be controlled by being hunted.
African Big Five
Which contains 5 of the most difficult animals to hunt, and its existence was almost extinct in Africa, the lion (leo Phantera), African elephants (Loxodonta africana), bull (Syncerus caffer), Leopard (Phantera pardus), and White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum ).
Until now, the museum has a collection of more than 1000 species of animals and the amount of approximately 3000 animals preserved from different countries. The collections were the majority obtained by Rahmat Shah of legal hunting with the concept of "Conservation by Utilization" had been done for many years in various parts of the world. In addition, the collections at the museum were also derived from gifts and donations from various circles, dead animals in a zoo or wildlife park, and some purchased legally.
Birds of Paradise Varieties
Cats of The World
Pheasant of The World
The eggs were in the different room, okay. I just think they had some relations. LOL. Silly me forget capture the note of what kind of animals which had them
Bear Room
Sorry for the blur pictures. Really really dark you know and flash was forbidden. Dunno why. Maybe the light can damage the collections.
Insect Collection
No no.. That's not insect! I just think they are beautiful. hehe
Dry Aquarium
Really hard to get this picture because the school students look loving it so much. They stand so long in front of it so I should queue. LOL
This crocodile is really big in real life.
The Mountain Sheep
I could capture until the top but the result was so bad so I took the top when I stepped to the second Floor
Dall Sheep and Grey Wolf
Indonesia Nature Room
Sumatran tigers are almost extinct
On the second floor, preferably as a library and storage space hundreds of trophies, awards, and plaques result from the owner of the museum achievements over the years. There was a notice that the content was "Want to know how to hunt without destroying nature? Read books contained in our library." But the bookshelf was actually locked -,-". In addition, there was also a collection of original jersey world soccer players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. There was also a collection of pieces of 35mm film cell from famous Hollywood films such as Harry Potter, Twilight, and Shrek.
They also had some conjoined twin animals.
Boring? Okay, it will be the last. hehe
Can you teach me how to edit picture to get natural result?
